The story

It’s Friday night at Crust & Co., a family pizzeria on the north side of Chicago, and the doors are locked for a private anniversary party. There’s pizza, there’s karaoke, and there’s an ice-cream cake waiting in the walk-in freezer.

At eleven o’clock, owner Vinnie Crust is found inside that freezer, the door jammed shut from the outside with a rolling pin. The karaoke was so loud that nobody heard a thing. Beside him is a plate holding a single slice of pizza with one bite taken out of it: the last slice.
